It is said that Button-Down Collars originated from clothing used in British polo competitions at the end of the 19th century. At that time, in order to ensure the collar wouldn’t turn up during strenuous exercise and affect the game, athletes fixed it with buttons. And this detail is still in use today. Especially in the 1950s in the United States, it’s very popular. As an indispensable part of IVY style, Button-Down Collar shirts and Penny Loafer are also standard in IVY style.
